Doron Medical Center

The vision that launched Meaningful Life International in 2006 was given to its founders, Rev. Dr. Godwin Ahlijah and Dr. Lenusia Ahlijah, back in their post-graduate days. They had already spent years bringing medical attention to the poor and underprivileged — not only in Ghana, but across the continent. The Doron Medical Center is the beginning of that vision.

The existing site covers four acres and is surrounded by land available for purchase when expansion is needed. The current foundation is strong enough to support four floors, and the Center will become the hub of the rural medical outreaches.

What it will hold

DMC will be the premier healthcare facility in the area and will house an operating theatre with modern surgical equipment. When all floors are complete it will accommodate visiting medical teams who want to learn, first-hand, how the subtropical diseases common in Africa are actually treated — and who can then volunteer their time and skills on rotation, travelling out to the rural areas on the medical outreaches.

Why it is the sustaining project

Once operational, DMC becomes the self-sustaining arm of MLI. It sits on the outskirts of Tema, a fast-growing urban centre, and many local residents will be able to pay for their medical services — generating income for MLI to raise money for future projects from its own work rather than only from gifts.

Finishing it as soon as possible is what brings hope to the people who are suffering for lack of basic medical care. That is why this project carries urgent status.
